Black History: Deuteronomy 28: 15-68

More than often we hear different individuals speak on the bible being a tool for control. That the slave masters used the book like a device to control the mind of their slaves and oppress them. But how can a bible that promotes love be used as a tool for oppression? It's evident that whoever tried to do so or believed they were doing so had no idea what they were doing. Not to forget, a tool for control would consistently promoted to you in school, social media, Is it not written in that same bible “ God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him won’t perish but will have eternal life.”? (John 3:16) That verse in a whole is the bible summarized. So that whoever—any skin color, any culture, from any country, with any disabilities—believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. But of course, believing in Him comes with following his footsteps, follow his rules, and accept what He considers to be good and bad.

Usually I find that that those who speak on the bible being a tool for control and oppression are those of African American descent. Which adds up and make complete sense right? They are usually the ones with no actual understanding on what the bible is about. They are those who hear, think, and speak before gaining real knowledge, truth, and understanding. Those who have never read the bible a day in their lives or those who know a couple verses from childhood when they were taken to church by their parents or guardians.

What is the bible about ?

Contrary to many beliefs, the bible is not a rule book but instead a history book. The history of God’s chosen people “Israel”. Through Israel God wanted to save the nations of the world and so He made a covenant with this chosen people. The covenant came with rules and regulations which we know as the Law of Moses. God’s people were to follow those rules so they can be set apart from all the other nations. If Israel obey the law, they were offered many blessings which we can find in Deuteronomy 28: 1-14. They lived those blessings for a short while with the kings that kept the covenant pure (i.e king David and Solomon). But as a parent reward their children for good deeds they also punish them for the bad ones. And so, if Israel disobey the law, they were told that they would be punished and cursed forever. And such were the curses that would be placed on them if they disobey the law according to Deuteronomy 28: 15-68:

…(CEV)Israel, Today I am giving you the laws and teachings of the Lord your God. And if you don't obey them all, He will put many curses on you. Your businesses and farms will fail. You won't have enough bread to eat...

….The Lord will make you fail in everything you do…(CEB) All the earth’s kingdoms will be horrified by you. Your plans won’t prosper. Instead, you will be constantly oppressed and taken advantage of without any savior. You might get engaged to a woman, but another man will have sex with her. You might build a house, but you won’t get to live in it (Most of the U.S is built by slaves)….

….Your sons and daughters will be given to another nation while you watch; you will long for them constantly, but you won’t have the power to do anything about it (Slavery)…….You will be nothing but oppressed and mistreated constantly…

…The Lord will send you and the king that you appoint over you far away to a nation that neither you nor your ancestors have known. There you will worship other gods made of wood and stone. You will become a horror, fit only for use in proverbs and in insults (N***er) by all the nations where the Lord drives you….You might have sons and daughters, but they won’t be yours for long because they will be taken away as prisoners (Slaves)……

...They will lend to you, but you will have nothing to lend to them. They will be the head of things; you will be the tail…These things will be a sign and a wonder on you and your descendants forever…..Because you didn’t serve the Lord your God joyfully and gladly above all else, you will serve your enemies—the ones the Lord will send against you…

…The Lord will scatter you among every nation, from one end of the earth to the other (Self-explanatory). There you will serve other gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known….

Did they obey the law ?

Absolutely Not.

Over and over they broke the law after given chances after chances to repent by Yahweh. Not only did they disobey the law, they crucified the Messiah that was sent for them (Yahshua/Jesus). They asked that His blood be put on them and their children to come.

As we examine those curses given to Israel, we can only really relate them to one group of people. That is the African American. We do so because those curses are not lifted from Israel. They are still under the curses of their forefathers to this day and we can see that throughout the nations and countries of this world. But Yahweh is not completely done with them because He will seal a number of them in the end times which we find in Revelation 7.

If you are reading this, I truly believe you’ve been guided to do so. I, personally, am not a perfect man, but I fight my battles daily in spirit, physically, and materialistically. This is not to put a race on top of another, but to bring truth through careful observation of the bible we believe in. If you have gotten so far, believe in the word, and have given Christ your life in baptism let the Holy spirit guide you in understanding this article.
